ASHP Survey Reveals Impact of Economy on Hospital Pharmacy Services
By Healthcare Scouts | April 24, 2009
A recent survey by the ASHP on of the Impact of the Current Economy on Pharmacy Services in Hospitals and Health Systems reports that “Pharmacy departments are being asked to do more with less while they still have to meet critical patient care needs to ensure safe and effective medication use,” said ASHP President Kevin J. Colgan, M.A., FASHP. “Networking with peers and sharing experiences can help pharmacists meet these challenges and ASHP intends to serve as that resource for our members.””
Healthcare Scouts serves as a resource as well assisting organizations acquire top pharmacy talent who have the competencies to lead during today’s economic storm, and have the capacity to do more with less while delivering optimal patient care. Progressive organizations understand the value of talent and investing in retention strategies (ROI), such as permanent placement, vs. “bandaid” short sighted cost cutting measures that can negatively impact the organizations culture, morale, and overall patient care. The shortage and demand for quality pharmacy professionals will continue to grow. Implementing procurement & cost cutting policies designed for commodity items such as “pencils”, does not work with “people”…Pharmacy professionals need to lead in this forward thinking.
